Scenic and intimate celebrations in the Hudson Valley
Some of the best views in the Hudson Valley are from the wedding venues in the Highlands section of the river (generally between Peekskill and Beacon). Just a short drive from Cold Spring, The Garrison is nestled right in the middle of the Hudson Highlands and is one of the best that New York has to offer. It is a venue that is at once breathtaking as well as unassuming and grounded in genuine connection. As you approach the venue and walk the grounds, it is impossible to not be awed by the panoramic river views, its modern and elegant architecture, and the pastoral grounds sloping down towards landscaped ponds and willows. The air is saturated with a quiet intimacy that speaks to couples who are looking for gorgeous scenery but who also value being intentional and present on their wedding day.

Calm connection: How The Garrison provides the perfect backdrop
The Garrison is the perfect venue for couples who value the beautiful landscape and who also want to find a venue with a warm yet refined atmosphere, which will allow them and their guests to have a personal experience. In our initial calls most of my couples express that they want their wedding to feel like a big celebration with their friends and family, and that they want their day to feel thoughtful and full of meaning. Many of them care deeply about family, community, and experiences that reflect who they are, so while they are motivated to create beautiful portraits, they also want to have time to attend part of their cocktail hour and mingle with their loved ones.
The Garrison fits that description and provides that setting. The landscape, architecture, and vibe provide a feeling of beauty and comfort that lingers and intensifies throughout the day as the sun sets over the river and streams in through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Just as importantly, the staff is impressively efficient and caring. Take it from someone who sees what goes on behind the scenes: there is a difference between a staff who works for the venue, and a staff who works for the couple. The Garrison staff is absolutely the latter.
Natural light for creative portraits and real moments
The Garrison feels dynamic throughout the day as the natural light changes, which provides so many opportunities for documenting real wedding day moments. The patio lawn is ideal for day-time ceremonies. Then, as the afternoon progresses, the light becomes soft and even, perfect for photographing important moments as your guests celebrate. During golden hour the sun sets over the far side of the Hudson River, which provides ample time to take gorgeous portraits. There is a single moment, when the sun hangs just over the mountains on the far side of the Hudson River, when time seems to stop and the only people who exist are you and your spouse, together on the hilltop.
My photographic approach is rooted in observation of your genuine interactions, while blending prompts and directions that help you feel natural and comfortable. Prompts are meant to help you both feel and look your best…oftentimes the best images happen when I step back and let your natural rhythm take over. At The Garrison, that rhythm syncs into harmony with the landscape—it's easy to relax and be present here.
